As a child I had annual holidays in Aberdaron for 9 nine years ( 1971- 1980), we always use to stay in the Henfaes, when it was a hotel. I have so many lovely memories of Aberdaron, and now I am bringing my own children. We stay in
Bwlchgwyn Caravan, which is perfect. Very comfortable and we are always made to feel very welcome and at home. It is a very short walk from the main village, and the children love running through the 'secret shortcut' via a kissing gate through to the village. I adore the bread from the bakery so always head home with a few extra loaves to pop in the freezer! We love Aberdaron, and next week return again, with my sister and her son - we are introducing the next generation to the most beautiful and relaxing spot you could ever wish to find. Rachel Miller May 2011

My two children and I have just stayed at Morfa Bach campsite and it  was a lovely place to stay. Not  for those who want too many  facilities - we were only after a loo and a shower, which were basic but  adequate, although we pitched out tent on the field nearer the beach  which meant crossing the road to facilities -albeit a very quiet one-  this is not mentioned on their information page and may be a problem  for those with very small children. Mr Roberts was very laid back  about everything and for only £10 per night for our tent to be  pitched, I felt we got value for money. The site is part of Morfa  Mawr, but is about a quarter of a mile nearer to Aberdaron itself, so  a short walk into the village. Just right for us.  Another point is  that they claim a direct path to the beach. This is not strictly true,  as erosion of the coast line means it is more of a climb, and a very  slippery one at that, so don't be deceived! Aberdaron itself is a great little village, with a Spar that doubles  as the local butcher, a bakery and two decent hotels -the Ship and Ty  Newydd. Food is good at both and whilst Ty Newydd can boast the best views, the Ship was a better bet for family dining - the portions were  huge and service was friendly. There are stunning walks along the  coastline, which needn't be too demanding for little legs. I discovered that I had no mobile signal, however there is a phone box  at the Spar, but this was actually a blessing- how many times can you  truly be unobtainable these days? All in all, a perfect location if you want to be near the village but  away from it all!  Singh Family August 2010.

I was born in Bangor (about 35 miles away), but my first experience of Aberdaron was in 1974 when I spent a few weeks working in the little telephone exchange building up on the cliff top. I have been living in South Africa since 1976, but I have managed to revisit Aberdaron three times since, during visits to UK (last time was in June 2009). Aberdaron definitely has a magic all of its own, exactly as I remember it, and I am looking forward to visiting again in the years to come.  Keith Thomas, Johannesburg, July 2010.

In 2000 we got married from Aberdaron, we have just been back for our tenth anniversary stopping at the Gwesty Ty Newydd, great time was had thanks to all the staff, also thanks to all the staff at the Ship our meal on Saturday night was perfection, and as usual everyone in the village makes us so welcome THANK YOU ALL. Mike and Pippa Hedison April 10

I have just come back home to Neath after a wonderful week staying in 4 Bryn Llan.  I had never been to the Lleyn peninsula before.  I live near a gorgeous part of the world myself (in between the waterfall country of the Neath valley and the Gower beaches) but Lleyn, and Aberaron in particular, took my breath away. The cottage was welcoming and cosy and in an amazing position just by the church.  I could count the bunny rabbits in the churchyard from my bedroom window in the mornings!  Waking up and falling asleep to the sound of the waves on the beach, the lovely people, the peace and beauty of the surroundings, the welcome and good food at both hotels - I was in tears leaving this morning!  Cant wait to come back.   Andrea Neath April 10

I only came across your excellent little site early today in my continued search for accommodation for my Early May Bank Holiday weekend walk along the Llyn Coastal Path from Nefyn to Llanbedrog - no Youth Hostels, no B&B along the North coast to speak of (confirmed by Martyn Croydon of Llyn.info also), no Buses to speak of on Sundays and Bank Holidays - what a challenge!   Anyway, I have just now booked myself in for 4 nights at the static van at Mur Melyn.  I'll end up with some extra miles to and fro to walk, but will have the car also at that central point, so will be able to use that to help me, either at beginning or end, or both, of a day.
Well done to aberdaronlink!!!!   Best Regards   Chris Walters Stockport March 10

I well remember a marvellous fortnight's holiday in Aberdaron with my parents and brother and sister. I've been lots of places worldwide since then - I think it must have been 1965 - but that holiday sticks in my mind as one of the best of my life. We stayed on a working farm with a lady called Mrs Jones and her daughter. It seemed everyone was called Jones then! They had corgis. A memorable feature was the glorious hot sunshine we had for the whole time we were there. I've long promised myself to visit again and recently references to Aberdaron keep popping up to remind me to do so, most recently the feature in this month's "Oldie" magazine about RS Thomas and his time as vicar there. I intend to make the trip back as soon as I can. Richard Cooper, Sheffield, South Yorkshire October 08

We have been to Aberdaron twice and loved it both times. The last time we stayed at Dwyros (August 2007) and brought the dog along for a treat. Really friendly people on the campsite and the dog met lots of four legged friends to play with. We will come again and stay in Dwyros because it's mor gyfeillgar. DenisThis is me and another generation of visitors to Dwyros. We started in 1966 and have never missed a year since. Kitty Williams ran the site then and we camped in tents, wearing out quite a few in the sometimes horrendous gales I seemed to attract over the years. It was a working farm then and our four children and countless family, cousins and friends have had wonderful times there helping Erwynn [sorry about the spelling] milk the cows and when each child asked the names of the calves they would be delighted to find it had the same name as them!!!! But time moved on and Kitty retired and moved just down the hill, where we used to stop and chat to her on our laborious climb back to our tent. The new and present owners Alun and Carol took over and after telling them of our years of camping took pity on my ageing bones and gave us a static site in April 1989 Halleluiah. Over the years people on the site have come and gone, some good friends alas forever. Dwyros indeed gets in your blood. Our four children [three in their forties, our son in his thirties] still visit every year and the phone is red hot in the winter working out dates. This week our eldest is there with her two sons, in August another is there with her son and in September Our David is there with his two. With a bit of luck they might let us pop up to our caravan to visit the grandchildren for a day or so. When we started camping on Dwyros all those years ago our kids used to wash their hair under the cold water stand pipe in the field so I suppose they served their time on Dwyros and are now entitled to benefit from the many improvements Alun and Carol have made. Some things don't change, at the start of each season Bernadette and I still argue who saw the Aberdaron road sign first!! Best wishes Denis and Bernadette Giblin, "Polaris" Dwyros Jul 07

Of all the beauties in the world you will not find anywhere such as Aberdaron. This place will suck you in and cast its magic for eternity or it will spit you out, unworthy of its charm. For those that have been spellbound, the sound of its name will stir emotions of times uncluttered by the shackles of a ticking clock or the beeping of a mobile phone. At its heart are the beautiful people, the ones that make it breath and feed its magic. Don't invade and try conquering this place, for you will lose a little corner of heaven. 'Aberdaron' simply translated ....'Sanctuary'. Graham Kingston Jan 07

Hi I came to Aberdaron 3 months ago with my family and grandma and grandpa and cousins. We went to fisherman’s cove and did not get time to go to the beach Whistling sands. We got to go to Eleri stores and the bakery down the road. We stayed in a caravan, my mum dad auntie uncle & baby cousin stayed in the B&B. Sophie 10 (Widnes)

Thank you to Ben Williams, aged 14 from Rhyl, North Wales who drew this lovely picture of the Ship Hotel, Aberdaron whilst on his holiday.

Aberdaron "The Beautiful Place": Sitting here after a week in the world of corporate mayhem. It is absolutely fantastic and definitely a tonic to visit the site and "gen up" on the comments that have been posted over the last few months. Great to see the site and Village doing so well, and local business also thriving. Aberdaron is truly a wonderful place, with the very best folk (believe me, I have travelled a fair bit over the years). Aberdaron is magical in it's draw - certainly for us as a family for over 20 years "year after year" a note echoed by your other contributions both of the past and present. We are so looking forward to our next visit in "five weeks and counting" for a full two weeks of excellent company in the Llyn's most beautiful secret. We look forward to seeing all our friends again, and our two daughters can't wait to get on the beach - nor can mum and dad! See you soon. Adrian, Elaine, Annabelle, and Elissa Liddell July 06

I've been visiting Aberdaron since about the age of five, twenty years ago! This is the first time I have ever really searched for a site on the place and am really happy that there is one. After reading all the other guest book entries I felt obliged to enter a few lines myself. My trips to the Llyn have usually been during spring bank week with my mother and sister and we always stayed at Tyddyn Merrion in Rhiw, owned by Shaun and Belinda Hughes. I consider that the best times of my childhood where spent there. Running round the fields and flying kites etc. Getting up early to count sheep with Shaun and milking goats where all experiences that I wanted to repeat day after day. I also enjoyed going to buying the milk from the diary farmer on hells mouth, green top. mmmm!! For anyone visiting the area, the view from Rhiw rocks is amazing and well worth a small hike. The area also has the best mackerel spot I have ever been to. I only know it as Aberdaron rocks, yet it is 1-2 miles before Aberdaron when approaching from Rhiw. Take the left turn that has a no entry sign on it and then go right at the 'T' junction. Park at the farm house, and walk down the left side of the fences and earth banks to a small gate, then straight down the steep grass to the rocks. I have caught over 50 fish a day there, selling them to the campsites to pay for the lost tackle! It is also good to see seals and one rare occasion I saw a group of bottle-nose dolphins. Porpoise are common also. Kieran Houldsworth July 2006

I used to going caravanning every year since the age of 2 with my family to Aberdaron always staying with the Williams on Bryn Farm.My parents still go every year but I moved to the USA and I have not been back since 2000. I am now 26 will be visiting the UK in May and spending 4 days in Aberdaron. I am bringing my Husband to show him this beautiful part of the world!!!! Anna Raigoza (Simpson) 8th May 2006

I have been coming to Aberdaron all my life camping at first but holidaying at other times in lovely cottages. I am now 38 and have brought my children for the last 16 years. There is something special about this place its like coming home every time and so sad to leave. When asked if they would like a change it is always lets go back, I wish one day to be able to live here for always. Cathy Alvis 14th April 2006

This is the first time I have been on the site and it is pretty good! Every year for the first two weeks in August, me and my family come to Aberdaron, Abersoch and Pwllheli and we think it is amazing, just to get away from the city and have a relaxing time. We stay in a private cottage on a farm land called Pen-Y-Borth, unfortunately we can not attend the cottage this year. (Most of you fishermen who go, might know the place and may have seen 2 girls and their dad fishing on those rocks, that's me). Hope you have a good time looking at the site. We fell in love with Aberdaron in 1999, we loved it so much that we eloped in 2000 and married in Pwllheli registry office. We camp their as much as we can and would love to move to Aberdaron. It is so romantic and peaceful even in the tourist season it doesn't get too busy. The people are friendly and the way of life is slow. We stay at Gwythrian Farm they are always so welcoming. We will be visiting again this year for our wedding anniversary. Pippa Hedison 24th January 2006

Great place, great people, made us so welcome in 1999 we came back in 2000 to get married, all locals really made our day thanks to them all, with a special thanks to the Williams family @ Fferm Gwythrian for all the help we got for our day. We make sure we return each year, for a day or two. Pippa Mike and James Pippa Mike and James Hedison 24th January 2006

Just to say hello to all our friends in Aberdaron. My family and I had many wonderful holidays in Aberdaron during my childhood up until I was 18 and we moved to the Isle of Man. We always stayed with Mr and Mrs. Roberts at Caerau farm and had wonderful happy times. We made childhood friends with Stephen and Alun Harrison (and a lot of others) and have stayed firm friends to this day! I was lucky enough to bring my children and my friend and her boys to Aberdaron, a few years ago, where we rented an amazing house called Afallon .... such luxury ... It was lovely to watch my boys enjoy the things my brother and I had loved so much. I was also thrilled to be remembered by so many lovely people. So, Stephen, Natalie and the "baby zone" wrestling team, Alun, Pauline and Mr. and Mrs Roberts, you are often in my thoughts! See you all soon I hope! Joanne. My mum's family first started going to Aberdaron 36 years ago and they stayed on Mur Melyn farm. All the family now go twice a year. In Easter we stay in holiday cottages and in the summer bank holiday we still stay at Mur Melyn farm. All me and my cousins have grown up going to Aberdaron. Alastair Cannell 23rd August 2005

Been coming to Aberdaron since I was a child. Now I bring my daughter. Like it so much that I would like to site a static caravan there. Excellent site. Anne Bradburn 16th August 2005

I was first taken to Aberdaron on Holiday by my parents when I was about 4 months old in 1956. We returned every year until 1973, staying at Pen y Bryn (Mrs Griffiths). Apart from a visit in 1984 have not been back, regretfully. Must rectify that situation - I have vivid fond memories of Aberdaron and the Llyn. Andrew Butler 1st July 2005

I have holidayed in Aberdaron with my parents since I was 10 years old. I am now 32 and I return up to twice a year with my Husband we stay in a cottage called Gwagnal on the peninsula point. Sometimes we stay in the Ty Newydd the Hotel on the front of Aberdaron Beach. We love Aberdaron we walk up to 8 miles a day - it is a beautiful area with stunning scenery and views. We are going on Saturday 11th June I will report back with current happenings in the village. June Lyth 10th June 2005

We have just spent a wonderful week bringing in the New Year in Aberdaron. We stayed near Dwyros and had a great time on the beach and even running into the sea for the Tsunami appeal on New Years Day. We had lovely walks on the coastline and this time paid a visit to Porth Oer - beautiful, but no dogs allowed unfortunately for us! Can't wait for the Spring to come then we can return as soon as possible. Lesley Holland 12th Jan 2005

Really nice site very useful have a cottage in Rhiw been Coming to Aberdaron Since I was born (14 years!!!) It would be really nice to keep the village as it is and to not let it get too touristy, busy or littered. G. Gabriel Stogdon 15th December 2004

A great week on top of the cliff (Spring Bank Holiday ) above Aberdaron Beach a very good accommodation (Wild Thyme). Good weather, fantastic countryside and very 'unspoilt'. Very nice not to hear the sound of jetski's but birdsong instead. The ideal place to go if you want to escape for a week. David Gardner 10th June 2003

We've been visiting Aberdaron for 7 years now, usually half a dozen times a year. We stay at Caerau Farm in a touring caravan with awning etc...Alwyn & Elin who run the farm and camp-site are wonderful people and always make everyone feel welcome. We go fishing all around the peninsula and then barbecue back at the camp-site. We've just had a wonderful Spring Bank week, the weather was fantastic and it was great meeting all our camping friends again, its like a community all of our own! For anyone who's never been before...try it, you won't be disappointed!!! Mrs Debbie Waterhouse 1st June 2003

I have been going to  Aberdaron since I was four years old, ( I am now 38!!) We have always stayed at Tir Glyn and have had many many happy times there. Aberdaron remains beautifully  unspoilt, its great for all age groups, and in  my opinion is one of the nicest places on earth! Kathryn Maguire ( nee Smith) 25th May 2003

Teithio o Bwllheli ar y Sherpa drwy gefn gwlad Llyn. Ymweld ag Eglwys Hywyn Sant ac yna cerdded i fynny drwy Uwchmynydd i'r Mynydd Mawr ac i olwg Ynys Enlli. Profiad gwrfeiddiol. Y Saint o'm plaid, er ei bod hi wedi bod yn pystillio bwrw ym Mhwllheli, yr haul yn tywynnu fel arfer yn Aberdaron. Awr o hamddena wedyn ar y traeth i aros y Sherpa yn ol. Cyrraedd Caernarfon mewn awr a hanner. Mab y Mynydd
Travelled from Pwllheli on the Sherpa through the beautiful Llyn countryside. A visit to St Hywyn Church, then a yomp to Braich y Pwll (3/4hr) and an encounter with Bardsey. A magical experience. The Saint must have been on my side - the bus driver said that it had rained heavily at Pwllheli - the sun shone, as per usual, at Aberdaron. Afterwards an hour of rest on the beach, painted a picture of Ynys Gwylan Fawr. Back on the 3,50 Sherpa, reaching Caernarfon by 5.30. A superb day. The last day of April in the year 2003.

We stayed at Tyn Lon with Mrs Kitty Evans (off the Uwchmynydd Road). We have been holidaying in Aberdaron since 1968. It is so peaceful and friendly. We learned of this website from Karen Wisbey at the old soup kitchen (I can't remember it's proper name). [Y Gegin Fawr ! Ed.] We find something new every year. This year it was the view from above Plas yn Rhiw. We also managed to get to Beaumaris and visited the Court house and Gaol. Certainly worth a visit. Thank you, Karen, your scones are lovely. Table of Fees

Good to see the site doing something for this part of Wales. Several families of friends have come over the last 28 years to Mur melyn. Our children and our children's children have come and will no doubt come back many times in the future. The attached photo is taken just before sunset on an exceptionally clear evening from the Coastguard station at Uwchmynydd and the mountains of the Irish coast can just be seen. The second photo is a flash picture of an old dark slate inside the door of the Church by the beach, showing the table of fees charged at that time. It might be of passing interest to the genealogists like myself amongst your visitors. Mike Trotter.
